The USA flight (a Airbus A310) carrying the weapons used an airport in Scotland (UK) while in transit. The UK criticises Israel's tactics (but not the attack itself) but does not call for a cease fire. Israeli officials admitted dropping 23 tons of explosives on Beirut in one night.

Israel continues to conduct mock air raids, its aircraft (US made and supplied advanced F-16 fighter jets) routinely breaking the sound barrier (often late at night) at low altitudes deliberately inflicting loud sonic booms against the inhabitants. A seige has been in place since the previous election - this has caused a humnitarian crisis. Israel has also destroyed the main pipe providing water for the Nusairat and al-Boreij refugee camps. This conflict and its effects on Palestinians is under-reported as the West's media concentrate on Lebanon.

By the end of the horrendous hate crime, this toll in Gaza, ignored almost completely in the Western Media:

Israel continues operations inside Gaza, killing three people and firing on cameramen. The death toll reaches 202 Palestinians over a two month period, including 44 children.

In the first month after the cease fire, 83 Lebanese die from cluster bombs. The majority of the bombs were manufactured in the USA by a company called Lanson Industries.

Small proteins called condensins are involved in the elaborate folding that DNA undergoes as it is wrapped into chromosomes. The team developed an ingenious method of gently pulling on DNA strands compacted with condensin. Bustamente relates, “when we began to pull it apart carefully, we saw it extend in a sawtooth pattern of force, like the click-click-click of Velcro unzipping.” When they relaxed the force, it collapsed back, then repeated the same pattern when pulled apart again. “That perfect reproducibility strongly suggested to Bustamante and his colleagues that they were seeing a condensed structure with a well defined organization,” the press release explains. Surprisingly, this reversible reaction did not require the expenditure of ATP.

I've met Eileen Tabios a few times, including a memorable dinner with her and Philip Lamantia one night in North Beach about six years ago. Eileen also deserves kudos for bringing through the out-of-print keyhole the work of Jose Garcia Villa, who, had, a, deep, love, for, the, comma (see The Anchored Angel, which she edited and which was published in 1999, reprinted in 2000). I don't know if Villa meets whatever the definition is of "neglectorino" but I sure hadn't read him before the Tabios-edited book. It is dawn in the Yusufabad synagogue in Tehran and Iranian Jews bring out the Torah and read the ancient text before making their way to work.
It is not a sight you would expect in a revolutionary Islamic state, but there are synagogues dotted all over Iran where Jews discreetly practise their religion.

"Because of our long history here we are tolerated," says Jewish community leader Unees Hammami, who organised the prayers.
He says the father of Iran's revolution, Imam Khomeini, recognised Jews as a religious minority that should be protected. As a result Jews have one representative in the Iranian parliament.

Approaching the Quran as a real poetic text: The Parable of the Gnat

Look that over first and you have here something that is argued about in all religions and that is "meaning". What is meant by this? The Quran actually says it out loud i.e. What is meant by this?

26. " Allah does not disdain to set forth the parable even of a gnat, or anything greater than that. as for those who have faith, they know that it is the truth from their lord. and for those who reject faith, they ask : ` what does allah mean by this parable? ' thereby he leads many astray and guides many, and he leads none astray save the transgressors".

Therefore, the Quran logically allows a person to indulge in their own personal exegesis (tafsir). Dangerous if you are not a nice person and lovely if you are a great guy or doll with half a brain, a whole one and a brain stem to keep you alert to the minutiae. What is really important is the idea that many scholars of Islam admit to the negation of anything in there which , as a matter of fact, agrees with what Wittgenstein illuminated: all logical questions or statements must also serve truth in their reverse form. Easy enough.

So, what is scientifically important about the gnat? What is obvious about the gnat? It is of course, one of the tiniest VISIBLE pests in the wild. There are those much smaller like mites or chiggers and even smaller than that! Even mites get mites. And then there is the world of the bacilli. And of course, there is the pimpled and dimpled sky full of eternal stars constantly forming and disintegrating. We cannot even really photograph the most distant galaxies but we can 'deduce' their picture by codifying their light waves. When you view those photographs, it is imperative that you understand it is an interpretation of light waves, not an actual photo....not to my knowledge anyway but they are amazingly beautiful to look at.

Therefore, what is meant by a parable that deliberately points to SIZE of the gnat and those things that are greater than it in size? Did Allah mean to say the gnat was the smallest things visible to the naked eye? Well it most certainly is...I'll tell you what. Here in our'ville, the gnats this year have been absolutely horrendous, numerous and violent. My legs are permanently scarred from them. Did I ever see one? Well, once or twice and for sure, I could see whole swarms of them in the sunlight but never close to me or my person. By the time they get that close they are practically invisible. So what do ya think?

Did Allah mean to communicate that there are still tinier things that the gnat?

I think so and perhaps that is the parable of the gnat. Pre-microscope and circa, spontaneous generation and homonculus. Now that is a work of literacy and reason.

It behooves the poet of modern times to take a look...even if they cannot suspend their belief for a lifetime and become what is generally known as a muslim. Try it for a few minutes a day and go from there. The last paragraph of the article substantiates this notion of the negation as a property of the Quran as a fine work of literature and poetry:

"....some commentators have cited their ideas about the verse under discussion as follows :the arabic term /yudillu/ means : `misleading'. wherever this word is used in the qur'an, relating to allah, it means the withdrawal of his grace and allowing the individual to have the way of his own choice as a punishment, consequent to the individual's rejecting the divine guidance voluntarily offered to him. The holy qur'an presents the justification to the frequent metaphorical expressions in the form of parables, to stimulate the human mind and heart. the result is obvious: that a healthy mind grasps the truth whereas the perverted mind increases its doubts as to what allah meant by the parable. thus the one and the same expression has two opposite effects. the right impression is `guidance' /hidayat/ which is assigned to ` the pious ' /muttaqin/, and the wrong impression is /dalalat/ ` going astray ' which is allotted to the wrong-doers, and pointed out in the next verse. the two important characteristics of the wrong-doers are: the breach of the covenant of allah, after it has been confirmed and /qata`a ma amarallah/ i.e., the severing of the relation or the connection with what allah has commanded man to establish, and doing things subversive and harmful to the harmonious life on earth."

Now, this is what Islam gets you. An appreciation of the light spectrum as the sea descends into the places of glow in the dark fish!

It is commented on in the Quran, as is Noah or Nuh(pbuh), as we call him. But this isn't about that at all, not entirely anyways! It is about a few other things. It is about the loss of people who you once loved or once loved you. Then God says NOPE. Not this one and it could be your very own son that betrays the Word of Allah. How unimportant in the scheme of things...unless like me, you are a worried parent.

Or, a poet who lost every single important poet relationship they had because, they chose Allah first, poetry second and publication: in paradise and not, on earth as is the norm in poetry.

But yes, the Quran tells it like it is and is very scientific in nature even when it comes to things like parables about flies and birds. What is the parable of the fly? Who can interpret the parable of the gnat?

The fly for one, is a parable about the powerlessness of human beings when a fly comes and absconds with what they are eating, say, a PB&J sandwich or maybe a nice steak or hunk of watermelon. Or perhaps, it is their own life that is suddenly taken away without prior approval, notice or sanction.

No reprieve from death it seems and so, the Quran says:

Cover you bases and your foodstuffs. If a fly falls in your soup, no need to throw it away either! That is, per hadith, one should first dip the fly into the substance and then throw it away, continue eating as if nothing even happened.

Well, that is because flies secrete a substance on their abdomens that destroys the bacteria that they carry all over their bodies. So, you just vaccinate your pea soup.

And then, yell at the waiter so the manager can give you a freebie.

Works for me anyway.

The poem though was written prior to my departure for real aboard the USS Trent with the famous kickboxing champ of the world, Nelson LeBron. I wish I'd asked for an autograph, certain that he'd not be interested in mine. How it is.

And no, my husband wasn't with me. We were on our own in a world of pain because we were being evacuated by a known war criminal and enemy. You cannot imagine the distress of that nor can you realize, I felt as if I was a seed being planted in a place far away and against my will or better judgement.

And now, we wait for the seed to grow. Just like my mom used to say when she taught me how to plant string beans. I had no idea she was teaching me Theology. None whatsoever.

She kept a small plot for me to plant on and taught me how to dig the little trench, which way to put the bean-seed in and the importance of watering it to make it germinate (note that tilling reference in the Quran and the Soilologists confirmation of that important matter). Then, with a very serious face she'd tell me about the prayer she would offer for the seed. She'd look up to the Creator which she knew to exist and say: Now I've done my job Lord. It is time for you to do yours.

Amen.

Kickboxing and the Swiss Knife

Once upon a time, I spent the whole night awake with a bunch of sailors aboard the USS Trent, a naval vessel which specializes in transporting Marines. Man, what a night it was. I was really tired but decided it was much more valuable to stay awake all night (we were on a mission to flee Israeli atrocities in Lebanon) and joke around with the sailors, Quinty, Art and "LeBron" and many, many other lonely men at sea. Lebron sat down to eat just as I was comparing my Leatherman tool to those of the sailors, they all had one. LeBron looked really familiar to me and I said so. He said and I mean he said it in the most profound Bronx accent (those O's!) you can imagine, "I'm LeBron, featherweight kickboxing champion of the world. Google me, there's only two LeBrons." Well, it took me some time to google old LeBron, a handsome albeit very short Puerto Rican sailor that provided me perhaps the best line I've ever heard. LeBron said (and I believe it to be true):

If you spin the Leatherman, you can travel through time.

And then LeBron walked out of our life forever. Once again, I met someone famous, perhaps even more famous than Alan Ginsberg or Jack Nicholson (whom I met at the Sacred Heart Church in Bisbee, Little America truck stop in "Flag", respectively). That (his biggest claim to fame) is because he was evacuating us from the conflict that will perhaps change the world and how it thinks of muslims and Zionist hatred towards us.

I started to write a nice and scathing report after reading Mr. Longworth's many published poems (mostly online with little in the way of the paper kind on hand) but my computer died. So let me just say, it was a brilliant offering regarding the irony of Fred Longworth as the protagonist in his own play, the play he doesn't know he stars in as a castaway on a deserted island in the South Pacific surrounded by innocuous Tahitian women and Tiki Gods which, he scoffs at too.

I mean the guy isn't even a decent idolater. Oh well. It isn't worth the time to be honest and Longworth is already a thing of the past. That is how much his poetry should affect the reader of poetry, a nanosecond of irritation and then, on to bigger and better things.

Like discussing the Pope. I love talking about the Pope. Problem is, muslims in general miss the point about the Pope and end up sounding ridiculous: Apologize to me!

Nevermind an apology, insist on an action people. Like I said, bring all Catholics home because it is not in the Catholic Doctrine to "fight" in the name of anything, including protecting your property or the property of space (did you know the Catholics invested church money in their own telescope?). Oh well. How it is.

Like I was saying. Longworth versus the Pope. One in the same, both just minor irritations along the way. Both are shooting blanks most of the time. Harmless as Hell.

How I think Americans who are seriously concerned about the world wide struggle that is happening CAN make a difference? A real one?\

Convert to Islam. For the hell of it. What do you have to lose I ask? What do you have to gain and more importantly, what would happen to politics in America if "they" had to really answer to the people who were so convinced that things were so far out of control that they literally defected while sitting in their living rooms, in their hearts. I'm telling you, it would change the planet.

What many people do not understand (their ego in the way and sometimes, their pride after having spent a lifetime failing to simply say "Al ham'du'lillah" for things created) is that in muslim countries, there is a tremendous amount of corruption (especially during the era of US and Zionist meddling) but when it comes down to brass tacks, when push comes to shove, when the leaders are between a very hard rock and an equally hard hard place, they cannot get away with murder anymore. In the Middle East, things have changed PROFOUNDLY . In Islam, it is technically 'illegal' to overthrow a ruler. Technically. But in the end, if a ruler is finally found to be a kafir (unbeliever) he must face off with the angry mob. That is not just any mob but a mob that believes in justice and is willing to risk their life to prove it. That is why in the Quran it challenges any individual or religious 'body' (like Catholicism) to put their money where their mouth is and INVOKE DEATH. It is literally the kind of thing Bush supposedly did (and his father) when they drew the notorious "line in the sand". The only problem is they invoked the death of soldiers many who are simply poorly educated teenagers (not all but a healthy majority of US servicemen are, I've seen it with my own eyes).

I think that a massive US conversion to Islam would force both parties (Democrat and Republican, and mind you they are both dirty in all of this as they always have been in this "duopololy" as Nader has called the two-party system)....it would force them to STAND DOWN. Not only stand down to the 'so called' Al Qaeda network but to stand down to their own lies and injustices which are even more vile because of their international authority and so called Moral High Ground.

What is that Moral High Ground according to Islamic standards? Well, not much. In Islam, when a person gives in charity, he/she does so with NO claim on any return. If the US and their allies are really "charitizing" by "democratizing" the ME, then they are obviously way off the mark because it is clear that they expect a return. This is not the kind of charity the world needs.

When a muslim gives of their time, their property or their life in the name of Islam, it is with no expectation of return in this life to any of it. The "beautiful loan" is what you give when you expect something better in paradise. Crazy eh?

But this life is crazy and it gets crazier every single day. It is called a Fitna and this fitna is of major proportions and effects every living thing on this planet. I'd say if this craziness can exist, then absolutely, many crazinesses can...parallel universes or whatever floats your boat.

Convert now and save the whales. Tell your neighbors that you are converting and start alarming everyone you know by telling them when you see them each day:

During the fighting, we were glad to contribute by using the ‘Rainbow Warrior’ to deliver urgently needed medical supplies in five trips with Medecins Sans Frontiere.
After the fighting, we are focused on the impact of the war on the environment. The impact has been massive in Lebanon but has also affected the entire region. In past weeks, we have been assessing and communicating these impacts and have teams working on beaches and on the ground to help with the clean-up efforts.

Next week, we are bringing the ‘Rainbow Warrior’ back to Lebanon to help the international and national oil-spill recovery effort. It will help assess the extent of oil smothering the sea bottom and help in its removal. While Radical Ann and I were on the road to the Chiracuahua mountains the other day, we were talking about global warming and she told me about something called the "salt pump" or rather, the thermohaline current of the seas and oceans on earth.
