All In A Day's Work: Practical Theology
(Should all CATHOLIC US Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan be sent home immediately in concordance with the pope's views on "Holy War"? I'd say yesand those troops should immediately apply for a reprieve from service as it does not agree with the Catholic Church's mission on earth.)
The "POPE" must have missed this article as he was seeking to define JIHAD by, er, Midieval Standards which, I assure you, are quite different nowdays. We still had the Reign of Terror coming up and that crazy WWI and II. So, I say to the "POPE" try harder to find better substantive quotes and information, like this:
http://www.islamonline.net/English/News/2002-09/24/article42.shtml
“I know people in America think Muslims are terrorists, but for Rwandans they were our freedom fighters during the genocide,” said Jean Pierre Sagahutu, 37, a Tutsi who converted to Islam from Catholicism after his father and nine other members of his family were slaughtered, the paper reported.
“I wanted to hide in a church, but that was the worst place to go. Instead, a Muslim family took me. They saved my life.”
“The Catholic church has a problem after genocide,” said the Rev. Jean Bosco Ntagugire, who works at Kigali churches. “The trust has been broken. We can’t say, ‘Christians come back.’ We have to hope that happens when faith builds again.”
And let us not forget that the "POPE" doesn't like the idea of Turkey being included in his "Catholic" European Union.
This "POPE" ought to be impeached. Why not? Everyone else is getting impeached nowdays so why not this elected "official" who somehow or another has been confused with "God's Emmissary" on earth. Wonder how that happened!

Dear Supporter,
The resilience of Lebanon inspires us. During the war, there was example after example of people helping each other and of humanity at work. During the fighting, we were glad to contribute by using the ‘Rainbow Warrior’ to deliver urgently needed medical supplies in five trips with Medecins Sans Frontiere.
After the fighting, we are focused on the impact of the war on the environment. The impact has been massive in Lebanon but has also affected the entire region. In past weeks, we have been assessing and communicating these impacts and have teams working on beaches and on the ground to help with the clean-up efforts.
Next week, we are bringing the ‘Rainbow Warrior’ back to Lebanon to help the international and national oil-spill recovery effort. It will help assess the extent of oil smothering the sea bottom and help in its removal. We also intend to find out how much the spill is affecting underwater life by working with biologists in Beirut.
Your continued support is not just essential to help the recovery of our coasts but it also is a great motivation to our office and volunteers. If you would like to get involved directly, we invite you to join us. Contact our office on 00961 1 755665 or sign up our web site and give us a hand.

We talk about his life in Iraq. “When I was in secondary school in Basra in the 1940s around a third of the students in my class were Jewish.
Later, when Israel was created in 1948, the Israelis did a deal with the Iraqi government to transfer the Iraqi Jews to Israel.
“Half a million were transferred. The Iraqi government got a £5 commission for every ticket they sold to an Iraqi Jew to go to Israel.
“Today the young generation in Israel aren’t taught about their roots in the Arab world, even though their grandparents may have come from there.”

The night is all I have anymore
to remind me of the place before
and the one before that, these
crickets and last chirps,
the bold lighting at the field
down the street where people clutch
helmets and grist is gut-wrenched.
All my houses are darker than the wanton
feeling of known people doing lost things
forever in a web of light and then, frustration.
They are the strange recollections,
the healthy chorus of jobs and kinships,
so many who know their way home
in the dark and those they pass by.
The dimpled lights are buttons
in the hills, treacherous old-ghosts
in line drawings pinned tightly
to these walls of solemn grace,
this worldly prison and escape hatch.
It's a friendly nightmare with open lips
and adjacent stares, dressed-up windows
with faint botherings and flies,
mine are as bare as the shores.
There are no muezzin here, no handicaps
and the rest is a barren spree
without the differentiation
of the late purple sky of home
as she hangs her head down & cries.
The satellites blink slightly,
survey us down below and the moon
shows the daylight of the other side
where people sit closer together
under the fig trees and miss me
while I think of them until
the mountains turn into night once
more and the field goes dark. I leave
these lights off as if to say
I protest all of this, I protest
this absence and the recovery.
I cannot buy or sell anything,
I just accept and take and carry.
This is the hardest poverty I've ever known.

On Broadway
This is just a village
away through there, the lots
and lower helpings staggered
between posts and pillars
bordered by horizons
held together by strings.
A tiny hamlet in a bed
of stars, a tempting
masterpiece of stretched
lights and stones, puzzle
pieces and grand dramas,
macabre scenes of decay.
How weary are the patrons,
how terrible the plots.

While Radical Ann and I were on the road to the Chiracuahua mountains the other day, we were talking about global warming and she told me about something called the "salt pump" or rather, the thermohaline current of the seas and oceans on earth. So I said, "Yeah, the Quran talks alot about that 'division'." So, as is my usual, I went looking for it. Took only a few seconds to come up with the data. This is called Ayat, or proofs. Just like geometry and logic use proofs, so does Islam. No more miracles, just the ordinary things taken for granted...are miraculous. Will it end global warming?
Doubt it.

And here for a nice trip through things like the tensile strength of a spider's web to the idea that we are a blob of jello revolving around a magnetic pole, everything in flux and rightly so. We all know how unstable 'stable' things can be, like the WTC. How easily they came down and how perfectly. How many strange things might be known if the investigators were involved in the science of the BUG. Bug off!

The Quran and the Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) provide a very detailed description of the microscopic development of the human embryo from a mere sperm drop up to the stage of a completely formed human being. It is well known that microscopes were not developed until the sixteenth century AD, and even at that were very crude in design. Zacharias Janssen is credited with having invented the compound microscope in about 1590. With it, remarkable scientific discoveries were made in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Dutch naturalist Anthony van Leeuwenhoek produced lenses powerful enough to prove that many tiny creatures are not spontaneously generated but come from eggs.
Yer kiddin' me! How unbelievable! It is, what got me about Islam.
Before this period, theories on human reproduction ran rampant. Some scientist believed that the menstrual blood itself developed into the fetus. Later on, a new theory was developed wherein the sperm drop was popularly believed to contain a completely developed miniature human (homunculus) which later grew to the size of a baby. The science of embryology as we know it today did not discover many of the detailed aspects of human development which are taken for granted today until only about twenty years ago, or 1973 to be precise.
That homunculus is really wicked isn't it? I think it would be rather useful in a poem.....a creator centered poem. The kind that elludes so many. The crazy data types of poems that know what truth looks like and sing. We need some more of those and less of the 'others'. Say yes to the tyranny called quality because quantity is just an offshoot of understanding.
Doubt it.

And this: I heard my dog barking over the phone. I haven't heard her voice in two whole months. You cannot imagine how I feel about that pup who they tell me, is being allowed to run through the rubble in South Lebanon and is actually, returning to her pen like a real trouper. I talked to her today and my brother in law told me, she stopped and looked at the phone. What on earth must she think about all of this!
Man I miss my dog.

more than seventy bivalves,
thousands of generally speaking,
cacti, in the dictionary of birds.
The order of texts in anxious

The general plan is, how

a sorting of things based on:
color, lingua, juxta-resource
that is absolutely, encyclopaedic.
There are few that make sense

of looking in and away again

the forces of stone and progress,
then crept out anyway.
It is unique, momentary, revelational
requires the finesse of the ancient,
the timing of snakes.
How unimportant grass is
in terms of parable and scholarship
when it grows. How it is when
it is found on a grave and more
still, how it demands the greatest
of attentions. Now sit still and listen.

BURN, from Ode to Seven
We tried to burn the town down
a stampede put it out
as an afterthought
right near the big circle
that drains into several
asphalt tributaries
Wood Canyon, Spring Canyon
Pearly Street-
We should have known
by the water marks
on the library walls
the flood couldn't take
it down neither,
a hundred some years before.
It just kept on melting.
Wow....amen.

In the eyes of the public, most of our national institutions and state symbols are cracked and flawed - more so than ever before.
What a pity that Nasrallah was the one who had to expose the ignominy of our leaders, who deviated from Israel's mythical motto with their hasty offensive in Lebanon. What a pity that Nasrallah was the one to pull the cover off and reveal the rustiness of the Israeli army.
...er...mythical motto? You mean a state only for Jews which, we all know, cannot be non Jews ethnically speaking. How about a state for WHITES ONLY. Remember that! Oh, Martin Luther King, where are you....and Malcolm X.....hey....how about Ghandi? Oh, never mind that....they are the ones who burned 2,500 muslims ALIVE. And now, the US is going to do what? Sell them nuclear weapons? I mean, they are already buying all our military junk. One does wonder why...geography or a mutual hatred of MUSLIMS?
Well...guess what I think?

There is something new about the sky
this time, it has never been that way
before. It is startling to know the radios
have been playing for such a long time
beneath it and from state to state.
Out there in the depths of Miracle Valley
the Bright Spot is for sale, it says:
For Sale
near Green Bush Draw, the Bible College
is in tatters and the Masonic Lodge
hasn't been opened in years. The dreamy
silence under the clothes-lines is the same
as it used to be but there are few dresses
there and the wires are sagging. Everyone
is in uniform for the long cool days ahead,
you can find them weeping if you try.
I hope to see a deer, then I do.
Hear Brenda Smith and Bud Yoder sing the MV anthem...beautiful.
