The Old West

There is something new about the sky
this time, it has never been that way
before. It is startling to know the radios
have been playing for such a long time
beneath it and from state to state.
Out there in the depths of Miracle Valley
the Bright Spot is for sale, it says:

For Sale

near Green Bush Draw, the Bible College
is in tatters and the Masonic Lodge
hasn't been opened in years. The dreamy
silence under the clothes-lines is the same
as it used to be but there are few dresses
there and the wires are sagging. Everyone
is in uniform for the long cool days ahead,
you can find them weeping if you try.
I hope to see a deer, then I do.
